Samsung’s latest software update, One UI 6.1, has started rolling out to its 2023 Galaxy flagship devices. This update, built on Android 14, introduces a range of AI-powered and other practical features aimed at enhancing the user experience.
Highlighted Features of One UI 6.1:
1. Galaxy AI Suite:
- Generative Edit: AI suggestions for photo edits.
- Edit Suggestion: Recommendations for photo adjustments.
- Circle to Search: Quick information search via a long press on the home button or gesture bar.
- Chat Assist: AI-powered conversation assistance.
- Interpreter: Real-time language translation.
- Browsing Assist: Improved web navigation.
- Instant Slow-Mo: Automatic slow-motion effects for videos.
- Live Translate: Translation of live conversations and text in images.
- Note Assist: Enhanced note-taking with AI.
- Transcript Assist: Real-time transcription services.
Generative Wallpaper & Photo Ambient Wallpaper: AI-generated wallpapers; Photo Ambient is exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series.
2. Non-AI Updates
- Removal of Samsung’s three-area gesture navigation system.
- Introduction of a “Battery Protection” feature to help extend the lifespan of the device’s battery.
Eligible Devices for One UI 6.1:
The update is currently available for the following 2023 Galaxy models:
- S24, S24+, S24 Ultra
- S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE
- Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5
- Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra
The rollout began on March 28, 2024, and is expected to reach all users within a few weeks.
Future of One UI 6.1:
While the update is presently limited to the latest flagship devices, it’s anticipated that One UI 6.1 will eventually extend to more Galaxy devices. However, some of the advanced Galaxy AI features might not be included in updates for older models. Devices that have already received Android 14 (One UI 6) are likely to be updated to One UI 6.1 in the coming months, broadening the reach of Samsung’s latest software enhancements.
