CMF has a habit of making a charging case feel more exciting than it has any right to be, and the Buds Neo teaser campaign is no exception.
The Nothing sub-brand has confirmed that its next pair of true wireless earbuds, the CMF Buds Neo, will officially launch in India on August 20 at 12 PM IST. Pitched as the most affordable entry point into CMF’s audio lineup yet, the earbuds have been rolling out in teaser form over the past few days — enough to sketch a fairly clear picture of the design, even with pricing and full specs still under wraps.
What the Teasers Have Actually Shown
CMF’s teaser strategy has followed a familiar rhythm: one image, then a follow-up video, each revealing a little more without giving away the whole picture. The first close-up showed the earbud itself — a white stem, two visible microphone openings, a metallic-silver body, and an orange silicone ear tip, with what looks like a circular touch-control zone on the stem.
The second teaser turned attention to the case, and this is where the CMF personality really shows up. The charging case features a corner-mounted control dial, echoing the same physical dial CMF introduced on the Clip Pro’s case just weeks earlier — a control style that lets users manage playback, adjust volume, and answer calls without ever pulling out their phone. It’s a small hardware choice, but a distinctly CMF one: physical controls where most budget earbuds would just shrug and rely entirely on touch panels.
Colour-wise, three variants are confirmed: a silver case paired with an orange dial, a dark blue case with a light blue (or teal, depending on the teaser) dial, and an all-black version. The earbuds themselves appear to follow the same dual-tone logic as their cases, based on what’s visible so far.
Where the Buds Neo Fits in CMF’s Lineup
The name gives away the positioning here. “Neo” is CMF’s way of signaling an entry-level tier, and everything about this launch backs that up — the company is explicitly framing the Buds Neo as sitting below its existing Buds 2 series, not above it.
For context on what that likely means in practice: the current CMF Buds 2 retail at ₹2,799 in India and pack 11mm drivers, hybrid ANC rated up to 48dB, Bluetooth 5.4, and IP55 water resistance. The step-up Buds 2 Plus, at ₹3,299, adds 12mm LCP drivers, LDAC support, and slightly stronger 50dB ANC. If the Buds Neo is genuinely positioned below both of those, expect a simpler feature set and a price that undercuts ₹2,799 — though CMF hasn’t confirmed a number yet, so treat that as informed expectation rather than fact.
This Isn’t Exactly a Surprise Launch
Sharp-eyed followers of CMF’s certification trail probably saw this coming months ago. The Buds Neo, carrying model number B190, appeared on India’s Bureau of Indian Standards database back in late May, followed shortly after by Indonesia’s SDPPI certification listing in early June. Regulatory filings like these rarely reveal specs, but they’re one of the more reliable early signals that a commercial launch is on the way — and in this case, they turned out to be right by a couple of months.
The BIS and SDPPI trail also answers a question some buyers may have been quietly asking: unlike the Clip Pro, which launched exclusively in global markets, the Buds Neo’s early certification path in India strongly suggested a local launch was always part of the plan.
The Bigger Picture: CMF Is Leaning Into Audio, Not Phones
Timing-wise, this launch lands at an interesting moment for the brand. CMF recently confirmed there won’t be a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro this year, with co-founder Akis Evangelidis pointing to rising memory prices as the reason a meaningful upgrade wasn’t feasible at a reasonable cost. Rather than reading that as CMF slowing down, it looks more like the brand redirecting its energy — audio products, accessories, and now the Buds Neo are filling the gap while the phone side regroups. Evangelidis has said as much himself, noting CMF has multiple new products and categories planned for the year.Whether the Buds Neo turns out to be a minor lineup filler or CMF’s next genuinely popular budget pick, that answer arrives in just a couple of days.
